MREC was established as an institution under the Danish Ministry of Health in 2021. With the implementation of the Medical Devices and Clinical Trials Regulations, a total of 3 new Scientific Ethics Committees were established, whose primary task is to process applications for clinical trials of medicinal products (CTR) and medical device trials (MDR) in collaboration with the Danish Medicines Agency.
